Earlier this week I did my third monthly post on the traffic rankings of some of the better known on-demand CRM providers. At that time the Alexa data hadn't appeared to be updated over the recent weeks, but I decided to put still list the rankings anyway. As with June and July, "The Big Three" of on-demand - Salesforce.com, NetSuite and RightNow Technologies - had the highest traffic rankings respectively. That's to be expected because these three really did pave the way for the "CRM-as-a-Service" model. Now there is a pretty sizable gap between Salesforce and NetSuite, but there is a big gap between NetSuite and RightNow. But the surprise to me from the beginning was how close Salesboom.com was to RightNow.
Today I noticed the Alexa data had been updated so I decided to take a look and see if there were any major differences. Most of the changes were minor except one - Salesboom has actually moved ahead of RightNow for third place - 43,361 vs. 44,457 (lower numbers mean higher traffic rankings).
I've had the opportunity to speak with Salesboom CEO Troy Muise on several occasions, and have taken a good look at the application. Troy is a very knowledgable CRM guy focused on building more and more functionality into the product while Ajax-ing up the user interface to improve the customer experience. The Salesboom app has a wide breadth of functionality and is very easy to use. The app can definitely compete for those SMBs looking for a solution that includes back-office functionality as well as basic CRM functionality as its price point is very attractive compared to "The Big Three". It doesn't go as deep into marketing and sales process automation as the more expensive and better known trio but it gets the job done for those looking to nail down the basics.
Now does all this mean that "The Big Three" has now turned into "The Fearsome Foursome" ( ...yes I am a Rams fan from way way back...)? I'm not ready to make that jump right now (pun intended). As I've always said about these rankings, "Not that this is any official way of ranking the on-demand CRM providers but I was sort of curious to see the Alexa rankings of some of the players." But one thing I do believe this shows is more evidence that SMBs are jumping head first into on-demand CRM, as the Salesboom price point is much more SMB-friendly than RightNow's.
